Habitat

This species inhabits shallow coastal waters and estuaries in the Northwest Pacific, including areas around Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan. They prefer sandy or muddy substrates in depths up to 100 meters, often near river mouths or inshore areas.

Diet

Yellow guitarfish primarily feed on benthic invertebrates such as crabs, shrimp, and worms, along with small fish. They forage on the ocean floor during nighttime, using their snout to probe and uncover prey buried in the sediment.

Behavior

Yellow guitarfish are generally solitary or found in small groups, exhibiting nocturnal activity patterns where they hunt at night and bury themselves in sand during the day to avoid predators. They show territorial behavior around feeding grounds and can be skittish when approached by divers or boats.

Conservation Status

Listed as Data Deficient by IUCN.
