Habitat

This species inhabits dry deciduous forests in western Madagascar, particularly in areas like the Menabe Antimena protected area. They prefer regions with dense canopy cover for shelter and are adapted to seasonal dry periods. Geographic preferences include lowland forests up to about 500 meters elevation.

Diet

Wright's sportive lemur primarily feeds on leaves, buds, and fruits from trees such as tamarind and fig species. They exhibit nocturnal feeding behavior, foraging alone in the canopy to avoid competition. Their diet helps them cope with the nutrient-poor foliage in their habitat.

Behavior

Wright's sportive lemur is solitary and nocturnal, spending days in tree hollows or dense foliage and emerging at night to forage. They are territorial, with males defending small home ranges through vocalizations and scent marking. Notable behaviors include leaping between trees and a low level of social interaction, primarily during mating.

Conservation Status

Wright's sportive lemur is classified as Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Major threats include fragmentation of forests and hunting for the pet trade, with populations continuing to decline.
