Habitat
This species primarily inhabits tropical rainforests in the western Amazon basin, especially in Peru, favoring dense undergrowth and riverine areas. They are arboreal, spending most of their time in trees and avoiding open or disturbed habitats.
Diet
The Wood sprite gracile opossum feeds mainly on insects, fruits, and small invertebrates, which it forages at night in the forest canopy. It exhibits opportunistic feeding behavior, occasionally consuming nectar or small vertebrates when available.
Behavior
These opossums are nocturnal and solitary, actively foraging in trees during the night and resting in dens during the day. They display agile climbing abilities and minimal territorial behavior, though they may use scent marking to avoid encounters with others.
Conservation Status
The IUCN status is Endangered, with the population trend declining due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Major threats include fragmentation of rainforest habitats and potential impacts from climate change.
