Habitat

This species primarily inhabits tropical rainforests and secondary forests in eastern Brazil. It prefers dense undergrowth, tree canopies, and areas with abundant vegetation for cover, typically at elevations below 1,000 meters.

Diet

The white-bellied woolly mouse opossum feeds on a variety of insects, fruits, and small invertebrates like beetles and spiders. It is nocturnal, foraging actively at night in trees and on the ground, and supplements its diet with nectar and occasional small vertebrates.

Behavior

This opossum is solitary and nocturnal, spending most of its time in trees where it is agile and arboreal. It exhibits territorial behavior, marking its range with scent glands, and is generally shy, avoiding human contact. During the day, it rests in leaf nests or tree hollows.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Least Concern, with a stable population trend, though habitat destruction from deforestation poses a potential threat.
