Habitat

This species primarily inhabits tropical rainforests and moist lowland forests in Central and South America, such as in Costa Rica, Panama, and Brazil. It prefers dense vegetation and areas near streams for cover and water sources. They are adaptable to secondary forests but avoid open or arid regions.

Diet

The white-bellied slender opossum mainly eats insects like beetles, spiders, and crickets, which it forages for on the ground and in trees. It may also consume small fruits, nectar, and occasionally small vertebrates or eggs. Feeding occurs nocturnally to avoid predators.

Behavior

This opossum is nocturnal and solitary, spending most of its time climbing trees in search of food. It exhibits territorial behavior, using scent marking and vocalizations to defend its range, and is generally elusive, relying on agility to escape threats. They are not social animals and only interact during mating.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Least Concern, with a stable population trend, though habitat destruction from deforestation poses a potential threat.
