Overview

This is thought to be the smallest of the three subspecies of mountain reedbuck, but very little is known about it. Not discovered by Europeans until 1961.

Habitat

Mountainous regions. Distribution- Found only in mountain grassland on Chappal Waddi, Chappal Delam and the Hendu-Shirigu-Yumti highlands in the Gashaka Forest Reserve of eastern Nigeria, and on the nearby Adamaoua Massif in Cameroon. Within this area it is widespread but sparse.

Diet

Primarily grazes.

Behavior

These animals tend to remain in small herds, with less than 10 individuals comprising a herd. There is usually a dominant male accompanying a few females and young, with juvenile males not included.

Hunting

Not hunted legally.

Conservation Status

Listed as Endangered by IUCN.
