Habitat

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and heavily degraded former forest.

Diet

Behavior

Violaceous quail doves are typically solitary or found in pairs, foraging quietly on the forest floor during the day and roosting in trees at night. They exhibit shy and secretive behavior, quickly taking flight into dense cover when disturbed, which makes them hard to observe. These birds are generally non-migratory and may defend small territories during breeding season, but they are not highly aggressive.

Hunting

This is species is typically hunted while passing over. A hunter will strategically place themself in between feed, water, or a roost to get a shot at the bird. Sometimes decoys are used to make the bird feel more comfortable.
