Habitat

Undulate rays inhabit sandy and muddy seabeds in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, typically in depths from 10 to 200 meters. They prefer soft substrates where they can bury themselves partially for protection and hunting.

Diet

They primarily feed on bottom-dwelling invertebrates such as worms, crabs, and shrimp, along with occasional small fish. Undulate rays hunt by ambushing prey from the sand, often at night when they are most active.

Behavior

Undulate rays are mostly solitary and nocturnal, spending daylight hours buried in the sand to avoid detection. They exhibit minimal territorial behavior but may undertake seasonal migrations for feeding or breeding purposes.

Conservation Status

Listed as Endangered by IUCN.
