Habitat

This species inhabits tropical and subtropical forests in the Andes of Peru and Bolivia, preferring moist, lowland to montane areas with dense vegetation. It is often found in understory layers and near streams, avoiding open or arid regions.

Diet

Tschudi's slender opossum primarily feeds on insects such as beetles and crickets, along with other small invertebrates like spiders and earthworms. It may also consume fruits and seeds opportunistically, typically foraging at night in the underbrush.

Behavior

This opossum is nocturnal and solitary, spending most of its time in trees where it is agile and arboreal. It exhibits territorial behavior, marking areas with scent glands, and plays dead when threatened as a defense mechanism. Males may travel more widely than females during mating seasons.

Conservation Status

Tschudi's slender opossum is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population trend, though habitat loss from deforestation poses a potential threat.
