Habitat
Tinfoil Barbs primarily inhabit freshwater rivers, streams, and lakes in Southeast Asia, favoring fast-flowing waters with sandy or rocky bottoms. They are commonly found in the Mekong and Chao Phraya basins, thriving in tropical environments with temperatures between 24-28°C.
Diet
Tinfoil Barbs are omnivorous, feeding on algae, aquatic plants, insects, and small crustaceans. They forage during the day, often in schools near the river bottom or mid-water, and use their downturned mouths to scrape food from surfaces.
Behavior
Tinfoil Barbs are schooling fish that form groups for protection and feeding, making them highly social in the wild. They are diurnal, active during the day, and may exhibit territorial behavior in confined spaces, though they generally migrate upstream during the rainy season for spawning.
Conservation Status
Listed as Least Concern by IUCN.
