Habitat

Thor's hero shrew primarily inhabits dense, moist forests and undergrowth in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. It prefers areas with thick leaf litter and vegetation for cover, typically at elevations below 1,000 meters. These environments provide ample insects and protection from predators.

Diet

Thor's hero shrew mainly eats insects, earthworms, and other invertebrates found in leaf litter. It forages actively on the ground, using its powerful spine to navigate through dense vegetation, and feeds primarily at night. This species is opportunistic, supplementing its diet with small amounts of plant matter when available.

Behavior

Thor's hero shrew is nocturnal and solitary, spending most of its time foraging in leaf litter for food. It exhibits territorial behavior, using scent marking to defend its area, and can be aggressive when threatened despite its small size. This species is highly active and uses its strong backbone to wedge into tight spaces for safety or hunting.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status of Thor's hero shrew is Data Deficient due to limited research and data. Major threats include habitat loss from deforestation, with population trends remaining unknown.
