Habitat

This species primarily inhabits broadleaf and mixed forests in mountainous regions of Taiwan and southeastern China. They prefer areas with dense vegetation, including trees and undergrowth, for foraging and shelter, typically at elevations from 500 to 2500 meters.

Diet

Swinhoe's striped squirrel feeds on a variety of nuts, seeds, fruits, and insects, often foraging in trees during the day. They exhibit caching behavior, storing food for later use, and may supplement their diet with bird eggs or small invertebrates.

Behavior

These squirrels are diurnal and highly arboreal, spending most of their time climbing trees and leaping between branches. They are generally solitary or live in small family groups, displaying territorial behaviors by vocalizing and marking areas with scent, and they are agile escape artists when threatened.

Conservation Status

IUCN status is Least Concern, with a stable population trend; major threats include habitat loss from deforestation and urbanization.
