Habitat
This fish inhabits rocky reefs and coastal waters in the western Pacific Ocean, typically at depths of 10 to 100 meters. It prefers areas with strong currents and abundant cover, such as around Japan, Taiwan, and the South China Sea.
Diet
The Spottedtail morwong primarily feeds on benthic invertebrates like crabs, shrimp, and small mollusks. It forages during the day on the seafloor, using its mouth to pick at prey hidden among rocks.
Behavior
Spottedtail morwong are generally solitary or found in small groups, actively foraging during daylight hours. They exhibit territorial behavior around feeding sites and may hide in crevices when threatened. This species is not known for long migrations, staying close to their home reefs.
