Habitat

This species primarily inhabits tropical rainforests and coastal areas in the Solomon Islands. They prefer lowland and montane forests with dense vegetation for roosting. Geographic range is limited to a few islands, where they seek caves, rock crevices, or tree hollows.

Diet

It mainly feeds on fruits such as figs, bananas, and other soft rainforest produce. Feeding behavior is nocturnal, involving hovering or hanging to consume food, and they use echolocation to locate ripe fruits. They may also eat flowers and nectar for additional nutrients.

Behavior

These bats are highly social, forming colonies in roosts during the day and emerging at night to forage. They exhibit grooming behaviors within groups and are generally non-territorial, though they may compete for prime feeding spots. Activity patterns are strictly nocturnal, with flights covering several kilometers in search of food.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Vulnerable, with population trends declining due to habitat loss from logging and agriculture. Major threats include deforestation and human disturbance in their limited range.
