Habitat

This species inhabits moist, forested areas and grasslands in eastern Asia, including parts of China, Myanmar, and Thailand. They prefer loose, well-drained soils in mountainous regions up to 2,000 meters elevation for burrowing and foraging.

Diet

The small-toothed mole primarily feeds on earthworms, insect larvae, and other invertebrates found underground. It forages actively in its tunnels, often at night, using its sensitive snout to detect prey.

Behavior

Small-toothed moles are solitary and fossorial, spending most of their time digging extensive underground tunnels for foraging and shelter. They are primarily nocturnal, exhibiting territorial behavior by marking their burrows with scent. These moles are not social and avoid interactions except during mating.

Conservation Status

The IUCN lists Euroscaptor parvidens as Data Deficient due to limited data on population size and trends. Major threats may include habitat loss from deforestation, but specific impacts are not well-documented.
