Habitat
This species inhabits coral reefs, rocky crevices, and lagoons in tropical and subtropical waters. It is commonly found at depths ranging from shallow coastal areas to about 100 meters in the Indian Ocean, Indo-West Pacific, and Pacific regions. They prefer areas with plenty of hiding spots to ambush prey.
Diet
The slender giant moray primarily feeds on fish, crustaceans, and octopuses, using its sharp teeth to capture and swallow prey whole. It is a nocturnal hunter, emerging from hiding at night to forage in reefs and crevices. Feeding behavior involves ambushing prey rather than chasing over long distances.
Behavior
Slender giant morays are solitary and territorial, often residing in the same crevice for extended periods and defending it aggressively from intruders. They are primarily nocturnal, spending daylight hours hidden in reefs to avoid predators and hunt actively at night. This species can exhibit curiosity towards divers but may bite if provoked, making them potentially dangerous.
Conservation Status
Listed as Not Evaluated by IUCN.
