Habitat
Silver eyes inhabit deep waters of the continental slopes and outer shelves in the Pacific Ocean, typically at depths of 200 to 600 meters. They prefer areas with soft substrates like mud or sand and are found in regions such as the East China Sea and Hawaiian Islands.
Diet
Silver eyes primarily feed on small benthic invertebrates such as shrimp, crabs, and worms, as well as occasionally small fish. They are nocturnal feeders, using their sensitive barbels to detect prey in low-light deep-sea environments. Feeding occurs mainly on or near the ocean floor.
Behavior
Silver eyes are generally solitary or found in small loose groups, exhibiting benthic behavior by resting on the seafloor during the day and becoming more active at night. They are not particularly territorial but may migrate vertically in the water column to follow food sources. Little is known about their social interactions, but they avoid brightly lit areas due to their deep-water adaptations.
Conservation Status
Listed as Not Evaluated by IUCN.
