Habitat

This species inhabits montane rainforests in eastern Madagascar, particularly at elevations between 800 and 1,500 meters. It prefers dense vegetation and tree cover for shelter and foraging, avoiding more open or degraded areas.

Diet

Sibree's dwarf lemur feeds primarily on fruits, insects, and nectar, which it forages for at night. It uses its hands to manipulate food and has a preference for ripe fruits during the wet season. Feeding occurs mainly in the canopy of trees to avoid ground predators.

Behavior

Sibree's dwarf lemur is nocturnal and primarily solitary, though pairs may share territories during breeding. It is arboreal, spending most of its time in trees and using vocalizations and scent marking for communication. During the dry season, it enters a state of torpor to conserve energy, and it shows territorial behavior by defending small home ranges.

Conservation Status

Sibree's dwarf lemur is classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN due to severe habitat loss from deforestation and fragmentation. Population trends are declining rapidly, with major threats including agriculture and logging in its limited range.
