Habitat

This species inhabits tropical rainforests and montane forests in the highlands of New Guinea, preferring dense vegetation between 1,000 and 3,000 meters elevation for cover and food. They are arboreal, spending most of their time in trees, and avoid open areas due to vulnerability on the ground.

Diet

Seri's tree-kangaroo primarily feeds on leaves, fruits, and flowers from rainforest trees, with a preference for young, tender foliage. They forage mainly at night in the canopy, using their strong claws to access food, and may consume bark or grasses when necessary.

Behavior

Seri's tree-kangaroo is primarily solitary and nocturnal, spending daylight hours resting in tree hollows or dense foliage. They are territorial, marking their ranges with scent glands, and males may engage in vocalizations or chases to defend areas, though they generally avoid confrontation.

Conservation Status

Seri's tree-kangaroo is classified as Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss from logging and agriculture, with populations declining rapidly in recent decades.
