Habitat

This species inhabits dry deciduous forests and spiny bush in western Madagascar, particularly in areas with dense vegetation for cover. They prefer elevations up to 500 meters and rocky outcrops for shelter during the day. Geographic range is limited to specific regions like the Kirindy Forest.

Diet

Seal's sportive lemur primarily eats leaves, fruits, and flowers from trees and shrubs. They are folivorous, focusing on nutrient-rich foliage, and feed nocturnally to avoid predators. Feeding behavior includes selective browsing on specific plant species like tamarind and figs.

Behavior

Seal's sportive lemur is solitary and nocturnal, spending days in tree hollows or dense foliage and becoming active at dusk to forage. They exhibit territorial behavior, marking areas with scent glands, and communicate through vocalizations like calls and grunts. Males and females maintain small home ranges with little overlap.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Endangered due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Population trends are decreasing, with major threats including fragmentation of forests and hunting for the pet trade.
