Habitat

Sclater's guenon inhabits lowland rainforests and swamp forests in southeastern Nigeria. It prefers dense vegetation near rivers and streams, avoiding open areas due to its arboreal lifestyle.

Diet

This species primarily eats fruits, leaves, and flowers, supplemented by insects and occasionally small vertebrates like lizards. It forages in the canopy during the day, using its hands to manipulate food items.

Behavior

Sclater's guenon lives in social groups of 10-30 individuals led by a dominant male, exhibiting territorial behavior through vocalizations and displays. They are diurnal and arboreal, spending most of their time in trees, and communicate with a variety of calls to warn of predators or maintain group cohesion.

Conservation Status

IUCN status is Endangered, with population declining due to habitat loss from deforestation and hunting for the bushmeat trade.
