Habitat

This species primarily inhabits rocky outcrops, cliffs, and arid woodlands in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It prefers areas with crevices for shelter and is adapted to semi-arid environments with sparse vegetation.

Diet

The Scaly-tailed possum feeds mainly on fruits, leaves, flowers, and insects, often foraging in trees and shrubs at night. It exhibits opportunistic feeding behavior, supplementing its diet with nectar and small invertebrates when available.

Behavior

Scaly-tailed possums are primarily nocturnal and solitary, spending the day hidden in rock crevices or tree hollows. They are agile climbers, using their scaly tails for balance, and maintain small territories with minimal overlap. Males may exhibit aggressive behavior during mating season to defend resources.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Vulnerable, with population trends declining due to habitat loss from mining and predation by introduced species. Major threats include fragmentation of rocky habitats and ongoing environmental changes.
