Habitat

This species inhabits montane forests and dense undergrowth in the Rumpi Hills of southwestern Cameroon. It prefers moist, cool environments at elevations between 800 and 1500 meters, often found in leaf litter and near streams.

Diet

The Rumpi mouse shrew primarily eats insects, earthworms, and other invertebrates like spiders and beetles. It forages actively at night using its keen sense of smell, and may occasionally consume small amounts of plant material or seeds.

Behavior

This shrew is solitary and nocturnal, spending its days hidden in burrows or under logs to avoid predators. It exhibits territorial behavior, marking areas with scent glands, and is an active forager that moves quickly through undergrowth. It communicates through high-pitched vocalizations during mating or territorial disputes.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Data Deficient due to limited research, but potential threats include habitat loss from deforestation and climate change. Population trends are unknown, making conservation efforts challenging.
