Habitat

It primarily inhabits deep-sea environments on continental slopes and oceanic waters, typically at depths of 200 to 1500 meters. Geographically, it is found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean seas, preferring cold, dark waters over muddy or sandy substrates.

Diet

The rough longnose dogfish feeds mainly on bony fish, squid, and other cephalopods, often targeting prey near the seafloor. It exhibits nocturnal feeding behavior, using its long snout to probe for food in low-light conditions, and may scavenge opportunistically.

Behavior

This species is primarily solitary and nocturnal, spending most of its time near the ocean floor and avoiding surface waters. It shows little territorial behavior but may undertake vertical migrations to follow prey or temperature changes. They are not known for aggressive interactions with humans.
