Habitat

This fish inhabits deep pelagic waters of the open ocean, typically at depths of 200 to 1000 meters in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. It prefers tropical and temperate regions away from continental shelves, often in areas with minimal light. These environments provide ample space for hunting and avoiding predators.

Diet

The Roudi escolar primarily feeds on smaller fish, squid, and crustaceans in the open ocean. It uses its speed and sharp teeth for ambush-style hunting, often in low-light conditions. Feeding activity is likely more intense at night or during twilight hours.

Behavior

Roudi escolars are solitary predators that roam the open ocean, exhibiting nocturnal or crepuscular activity to hunt effectively. They may undertake vertical migrations in the water column to follow prey or avoid threats. Little is known about territorial behavior, but they generally avoid dense schooling.

Conservation Status

Listed as Least Concern by IUCN.
