Habitat

Remy's pygmy shrew inhabits moist forests, grasslands, and savannas in Central Africa, particularly in regions with dense vegetation and proximity to water sources. It prefers areas with leaf litter and undergrowth for cover, avoiding open or arid environments.

Diet

This shrew primarily eats insects such as beetles, ants, and termites, as well as earthworms and other small invertebrates. It forages actively at night using its keen sense of smell, consuming food frequently due to its high metabolic rate.

Behavior

It is solitary and nocturnal, spending the day in burrows or under logs and emerging at night to hunt. Remy' pygmy shrew exhibits territorial behavior, marking its area with scent glands, and is highly active with quick, darting movements to evade threats.

Conservation Status

Remy's pygmy shrew is listed as Data Deficient by the IUCN due to limited research, but it is not currently considered threatened; habitat loss from deforestation poses a potential risk.
