Habitat
This species primarily inhabits dry deciduous forests and spiny thickets in southwestern Madagascar. They prefer arid environments with dense vegetation for shelter and foraging. Their range is restricted to regions with seasonal rainfall and thorny bushes.
Diet
The Reddish-gray mouse lemur feeds mainly on insects like beetles and moths, as well as fruits and nectar from flowers. They forage nocturnally, using their agile movements to catch prey or lick sap from trees. They occasionally consume small vertebrates or gum for additional nutrition.
Behavior
These lemurs are nocturnal and primarily solitary, though they may form loose pairs during mating. They are arboreal, spending most of their time in trees and marking territories with scent glands. During the dry season, they enter torpor to conserve energy, and they communicate through vocalizations and scent marking.
Conservation Status
The IUCN classifies the Reddish-gray mouse lemur as Vulnerable due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Population trends are decreasing, with fragmentation and hunting posing major threats.
