Habitat
This species primarily inhabits dry deciduous forests in western Madagascar, favoring areas with dense undergrowth and tall trees for shelter. They are adapted to arid environments with seasonal rainfall and are typically found at elevations below 500 meters. Geographic preferences include regions like the Menabe Antimena protected area.
Diet
Randrianasolo's sportive lemur mainly consumes leaves, fruits, and flowers from trees such as tamarind and fig species. They feed nocturnally, spending nights foraging in the canopy to avoid predators, and occasionally eat bark or insects for additional nutrients.
Behavior
These lemurs are solitary and nocturnal, spending days hidden in tree hollows or dense foliage. They exhibit territorial behavior, marking areas with urine and vocal calls, and are primarily arboreal, leaping between branches. Males may engage in aggressive displays during territorial disputes, but social interactions are minimal.
Conservation Status
The IUCN classifies Randrianasolo's sportive lemur as Endangered, with a decreasing population trend due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Major threats include illegal logging and fragmentation of their forest habitats.
