Habitat
Prevost's squirrels primarily inhabit tropical rainforests and secondary forests in Southeast Asia, including countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. They prefer dense vegetation with plenty of trees for climbing and are often found in both lowland and hilly terrains up to about 1,000 meters elevation.
Diet
Prevost's squirrels feed on a variety of fruits, nuts, seeds, and insects, which they forage from trees and the forest floor. They are active feeders during the day, often caching food for later use, and may occasionally eat bird eggs or small vertebrates.
Behavior
Prevost's squirrels are diurnal and arboreal, spending most of their time in trees where they are agile climbers. They live in pairs or small family groups and exhibit territorial behavior, marking their areas with scent glands. They are generally solitary foragers but may communicate with vocalizations and tail flicks to warn of predators.
Conservation Status
Prevost's squirrel is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population trend, though habitat loss due to deforestation poses a significant threat in parts of its range.
