Habitat

Pinktail triggerfish inhabit tropical and subtropical marine waters, primarily around coral reefs, lagoons, and seaward reefs at depths of 3 to 30 meters. They prefer areas with abundant coral and rocky structures for shelter and feeding, and are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region including the Red Sea and around oceanic islands.

Diet

This species is omnivorous, feeding on a variety of algae, small invertebrates like crabs and sea urchins, and occasionally small fish or plankton. They forage during the day, using their strong teeth to scrape algae from rocks or crush hard-shelled prey, and are often seen browsing in reef crevices.

Behavior

Pinktail triggerfish are generally solitary or found in pairs, defending small territories around their feeding and nesting areas aggressively. They are diurnal, active during the day and hiding in crevices at night, and exhibit bold behavior when threatened, using their spines to wedge into rocks. These fish are known for their curious nature, often approaching divers, but can become territorial and chase away intruders near their domain.

Conservation Status

Listed as Least Concern by IUCN.
