Habitat

This species primarily inhabits tropical rainforests and secondary forests in the Philippines, including lowland and montane areas up to 1,000 meters. It prefers dense vegetation for roosting and foraging, and is found on islands like Luzon and Mindanao.

Diet

The Philippine tube-nosed fruit bat mainly feeds on fruits such as figs, bananas, and other soft fruits, as well as nectar from flowers. It forages at night using its keen sense of smell, and plays a role in seed dispersal for forest regeneration.

Behavior

This bat is nocturnal, emerging at dusk to forage in small groups or alone, and roosts in tree hollows or foliage during the day. It exhibits territorial behavior around feeding sites but is generally not aggressive. Social interactions are minimal, with individuals often solitary except during mating.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Vulnerable due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Population trends are decreasing, with major threats including hunting and fragmentation of forest habitats.
