Habitat

This species inhabits coral reefs and sandy or rubble bottoms in tropical marine environments. It is commonly found at depths of 10 to 100 meters in the Indo-Pacific region, often near islands and atolls. They prefer areas with moderate water movement for foraging.

Diet

Pfleuger's goatfish primarily consumes small benthic invertebrates such as worms, crustaceans, and mollusks. They forage by probing the substrate with their barbels during daylight hours, often in schools to cover more ground. Feeding activity peaks in the morning and late afternoon.

Behavior

Pfleuger's goatfish forms loose schools that swim over reefs and sandy areas during the day. They are diurnal, actively foraging and resting at night, and exhibit territorial behavior when feeding. These fish use their barbels to detect and unearth prey, making them agile and responsive to environmental changes.

Conservation Status

Listed as Least Concern by IUCN.
