Habitat

Peter's fruit bat is endemic to the Philippines, primarily inhabiting tropical rainforests, secondary forests, and agricultural areas up to 1000 meters elevation. They roost in trees, caves, or human structures, adapting well to both undisturbed and disturbed environments.

Diet

This species mainly consumes fruits such as figs, bananas, and mangos, which they locate using echolocation. They are nocturnal feeders, often visiting fruit trees at night and playing a key role in seed dispersal through their feeding behavior.

Behavior

Peter's fruit bat is nocturnal, spending days roosting in small groups of up to 20 individuals in trees or caves. They exhibit territorial behavior around food sources, are agile fliers, and use echolocation for navigation and foraging, while also being important pollinators for certain plants.

Conservation Status

According to the IUCN, Peter's fruit bat is listed as Least Concern with a stable population trend, though it faces threats from habitat loss due to deforestation and agricultural expansion.
