Habitat
This species inhabits freshwater rivers and streams in South America, particularly the La Plata and Blanco River basins in Uruguay. It prefers areas with moderate currents, sandy or muddy substrates, and abundant vegetation or debris for cover.
Diet
Luciopimelodus pati primarily feeds on small aquatic insects, crustaceans, and occasionally small fish or plant matter. It is a nocturnal forager, using its barbels to detect prey along the river bottom during evening and night hours.
Behavior
This catfish is generally solitary and nocturnal, spending daytime hidden under rocks or in crevices to avoid predators. It exhibits territorial behavior during spawning season and is known to be relatively inactive during the day, conserving energy in its riverine environment.
