Habitat
Small tributaries, swamps, marshes, pools, ditches and the margins of forest lakes. It’s often found in very shallow water or lurkng among surface vegetation. Also, swamps and creeks with little current, as well as in flooded savannas make for a place to inhabit
Diet
Feeds on both insects and fish in nature.
Behavior
Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus is primarily nocturnal, actively hunting at night and resting in vegetation during the day. It exhibits solitary and territorial behavior, especially in shallow waters, and can breathe atmospheric air to survive in low-oxygen environments, allowing it to inhabit stagnant pools. This species is known for its ambush predation style, lying in wait among plants to strike at prey.
Fishing
This specie is a minor commercial fish and more of an aquairum fish.
