Habitat
This species inhabits dry deciduous forests and spiny bushlands in western Madagascar, preferring areas with dense vegetation for shelter and food. They are typically found at elevations up to 800 meters, avoiding more open or degraded habitats.
Diet
Otto's sportive lemur primarily feeds on leaves, fruits, and flowers, with a preference for the foliage of tamarind and fig trees. They are nocturnal feeders, foraging alone at night to avoid predators, and may consume bark or insects occasionally for additional nutrients.
Behavior
Otto's sportive lemur is solitary and nocturnal, spending days hidden in tree hollows or dense foliage and emerging at night to forage. They exhibit territorial behavior, marking their ranges with scent glands, and communicate through vocalizations like grunts and whistles during encounters.
Conservation Status
Otto's sportive lemur is classified as Endangered by the IUCN due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture, with populations declining rapidly.
