Habitat

This species primarily inhabits montane cloud forests in the Neblina region of Venezuela, at elevations above 1500 meters. It prefers dense undergrowth and areas with abundant vegetation for cover and foraging. These habitats are characterized by high humidity and cool temperatures.

Diet

The Neblina slender opossum mainly feeds on insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates, which it hunts at night. It uses its agile movements to forage in leaf litter and low vegetation. Occasionally, it may consume fruits or small vertebrates to supplement its diet.

Behavior

The Neblina slender opossum is nocturnal and solitary, spending its nights foraging in trees and on the ground. It exhibits territorial behavior, marking areas with scent glands to deter others. These opossums are agile climbers and use their prehensile tails for balance while moving through dense vegetation.

Conservation Status

The IUCN lists the Neblina slender opossum as Data Deficient due to limited research, but habitat loss from deforestation is a major threat. Population trends are presumed declining as a result of human activities in its restricted range.
