Habitat

This species primarily inhabits humid tropical forests and lowland rainforests in Central America, such as in Costa Rica and Panama. It prefers dense understory vegetation and areas near streams for cover and foraging. They are often found at elevations up to 1,000 meters.

Diet

The Narrow-headed slender opossum mainly eats insects, spiders, and other invertebrates, which it forages for on the ground and in trees. It may also consume small fruits or vertebrates when available. Feeding occurs primarily at night, using its keen senses to locate prey.

Behavior

This opossum is nocturnal and arboreal, spending most of its time climbing in trees and foraging alone. It exhibits solitary behavior with individuals marking territories using scent glands, and it is generally elusive, avoiding open areas. They are agile climbers that use their tails for balance and may play dead when threatened, a common trait in opossums.

Conservation Status

The IUCN lists Marmosops cracens as Least Concern, with a stable population trend, though habitat loss due to deforestation poses a potential threat.
