Habitat
This species primarily inhabits montane and lowland rainforests in Papua New Guinea and nearby islands, preferring elevations from 500 to 2000 meters. They are often found in areas with dense vegetation and abundant fruit-bearing trees, avoiding open or highly disturbed areas.
Diet
They mainly consume fruits such as figs and other soft fruits, as well as nectar from flowers. Feeding occurs at night, with the bats using their specialized noses to probe into flowers and fruits, and they play a role in seed dispersal.
Behavior
These bats are nocturnal, roosting in small groups or singly in tree foliage during the day and becoming active at dusk to forage. They exhibit minimal territorial behavior but may defend feeding sites, and they use echolocation for navigation despite being fruit specialists.
Conservation Status
The IUCN status is Least Concern, with a stable population trend, though habitat loss from deforestation poses a potential threat.
