Overview

These deer, in size, body weight and antler scores are smaller than the Mexican Texanus white-tailed deer, but bigger in size, body weight and antler scores smaller than the Mexican Gulf Coast and Mexican Pacific Coast white-tailed deers.

Habitat

The natural habitat is xeric scrub and thorn scrub of extreme dry weather in the northern area and template weather in the sourthern area. Distribution- Mexico: Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, México, Morelos, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas states. Coahuila state municipalities of: Arteaga, Castaños, Cuatro Ciénegas, Francisco I. Madero, General Cepeda, Matamoros, Parras, Ramos Arizpe, Saltillo, San Pedro, Torreón and Viesca.

Diet

This animal primarily browses on scrub brush and other desert plants.

Behavior

Exhibits many of the same behaviors of other white-tailed deer subspecies.

Hunting

Hunted in similar fashion to other white-tailed deer subspecies that inhabit more dry and open regions. Spot and stalk methods with long shots are common, as well as waiting over a water source.

Conservation Status

Listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, referring to the overall species rather than this subspecies. More research needs to be done to determine conservation needs of this specific subspecies.
