Habitat

Lucifer titis primarily inhabit tropical rainforests in western Brazil, particularly in the Amazon basin. They prefer dense understory vegetation near rivers and streams, avoiding open areas. This terrain provides ample cover and food sources.

Diet

Lucifer titis mainly eat fruits and seeds, supplemented with leaves, insects, and occasionally small vertebrates. They forage in the lower canopy during the day, often in pairs or family groups. Feeding peaks in the early morning and late afternoon when fruits are most abundant.

Behavior

Lucifer titis are monogamous and live in small family groups of 2-7 individuals, maintaining strong pair bonds with mutual grooming. They are diurnal, spending their days foraging and resting in the trees, and exhibit territorial behavior by vocalizing to defend their home range. These monkeys are agile climbers and use a variety of calls for communication.

Conservation Status

The IUCN classifies the Lucifer titi as Endangered due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Population trends are declining, with major threats including fragmentation of rainforest habitats.
