Overview

The Longtail Bass is silverish-pink on the top and silverish-white underneath. It has 10 dorsal spines, 14 dorsal soft rays, 3 anal spines, and 8 anal soft rays. The pelvic fin is long its tip extending posteriorly beyond origin of anal fin. The upper lobe is located further in the back close to the tail fin. A yelow line extends from the snout through the lower edge of the eye. The pectoral fin is pink; All the other fines are yellow in color. The mouth is large and slightly upturn, with the lower jaw extending slightly longer than the upper jaw.

Habitat

This fish occurs from 195 to 1000 feet deep in deep waters of the ocean. They prefer hard bottoms over muddy or sand.

They eat zooplankton, like copepods.
