Habitat

This fish inhabits deep waters of the continental slopes in the Northwest Pacific Ocean, typically at depths of 200 to 1,000 meters. It prefers muddy or sandy bottoms in areas like the Japan Trench, Okinawa Trough, and East China Sea.

Diet

The Longarm grenadier primarily feeds on benthic invertebrates such as shrimps, crabs, and polychaete worms, as well as small fish and squid. It is a nocturnal feeder, actively foraging on the ocean floor during the night. Feeding behavior involves scavenging and opportunistic predation in deep-sea environments.

Behavior

Longarm grenadiers are generally solitary and bottom-dwelling, spending most of their time near the seafloor. They exhibit nocturnal activity patterns, emerging to feed at night, and are not known for territorial behavior. This species is adapted to low-light conditions, using chemoreception to locate food.
