Habitat
This species inhabits arid and semi-arid regions of Western Australia, primarily in spinifex grasslands, heathlands, and shrubby woodlands. It prefers areas with sandy soils and rock outcrops for shelter, avoiding densely vegetated or wet environments.
Diet
The little red kaluta is primarily insectivorous, feeding on beetles, ants, spiders, and other invertebrates. It hunts actively at night using its keen senses, occasionally supplementing its diet with small lizards or seeds if available.
Behavior
Little red kalutas are nocturnal and solitary, emerging at night to forage and hunt in their territories. They exhibit territorial behavior, marking areas with scent glands and aggressively defending against intruders. They are agile climbers and diggers, often using burrows or logs for shelter during the day.
Conservation Status
The little red kaluta is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, with a stable population trend, though it faces threats from habitat loss due to land clearing and predation by introduced species.
