Habitat

Diet

The Large-headed scorpionfish feeds mainly on smaller fish and crustaceans, using its camouflage to ambush prey in low-light conditions. It employs a sit-and-wait hunting strategy, striking quickly with its venomous spines to immobilize victims. Feeding activity peaks at night or during twilight hours.

Behavior

This species is solitary and territorial, often remaining motionless on the seafloor to blend into its surroundings and avoid detection. It is primarily nocturnal, emerging to hunt at night while resting during the day, and uses venomous spines for defense against threats. They exhibit minimal social interactions outside of breeding.

Listed as Least Concern by IUCN.
