Habitat
This species primarily inhabits lowland and hill forests in Java, Indonesia, often in areas with dense vegetation and fruit trees. It prefers tropical rainforests and can be found at elevations up to 1,000 meters, avoiding open or highly disturbed areas.
Diet
The Javan tailless fruit bat feeds mainly on fruits such as figs and other soft fruits, which it locates using echolocation. It is nocturnal, foraging at night in the forest canopy, and may also consume nectar or pollen from flowers.
Behavior
This bat is primarily nocturnal, roosting in small groups or singly in foliage during the day. It exhibits territorial behavior around feeding sites and uses echolocation for navigation and finding food. Social interactions are limited, with individuals often solitary except during mating or roosting.
Conservation Status
The IUCN status is Vulnerable, with a decreasing population trend due to habitat loss from deforestation and agriculture. Major threats include fragmentation of forest habitats and human encroachment.
