Habitat
This species primarily inhabits dense forests, including evergreen and deciduous types, from the Himalayas to Southeast Asia. They prefer mountainous regions with ample tree cover and proximity to water sources. Elevation ranges from sea level up to 4,000 meters in some areas.
Diet
Yellow-throated Martens are omnivorous, feeding on small mammals like rodents and squirrels, birds, fruits, and insects. They hunt actively during dawn and dusk, using their agility to chase prey or forage in trees. They also scavenge carrion when available.
Behavior
These martens are primarily solitary, except during mating season, and are most active at dawn and dusk. They are highly territorial, marking their ranges with scent and defending them aggressively. They are excellent climbers and swimmers, often using trees to escape predators or hunt.
Conservation Status
The IUCN status is Least Concern, with a stable population trend, though habitat loss from deforestation and human encroachment poses a major threat. Conservation efforts focus on protecting forested areas in their range.
