Habitat

This species primarily inhabits subtropical and tropical moist forests in Southeast Asia, including mountainous regions of northeastern India, Myanmar, Thailand, and southern China. It prefers areas with tall, mature trees for nesting and gliding, often at elevations between 1,000 and 3,000 meters.

Diet

The Hairy-footed flying squirrel feeds mainly on fruits, nuts, seeds, and insects, which it forages at night. It uses its gliding ability to move between food sources in the canopy, and may also consume bark or young leaves when other options are scarce.

Behavior

These squirrels are nocturnal and arboreal, spending most of their time in the forest canopy where they glide up to 50 meters between trees to escape predators or find food. They are generally solitary but may share nests during breeding season, and exhibit territorial behavior by vocalizing or scent marking to defend their home ranges.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Least Concern, but populations are declining due to habitat loss from deforestation and fragmentation in Southeast Asia.
