Habitat

This species primarily inhabits the eastern rainforests of Madagascar, favoring dense, humid lowland and montane forests with abundant tree cover. They are typically found in areas with thick vegetation that provides shelter and foraging opportunities, avoiding open or disturbed areas.

Diet

The Hairy-eared dwarf lemur mainly feeds on insects such as beetles, moths, and other invertebrates, which it hunts at night using its keen senses. It may also consume fruits, nectar, and small amounts of tree sap when available, typically foraging alone in the forest canopy.

Behavior

This lemur is nocturnal and arboreal, spending most of its time climbing and leaping through trees in search of food. It is generally solitary or forms small pairs, exhibits territorial behavior by marking trees with scent, and enters torpor during cooler months to conserve energy. They communicate through vocalizations and scent marking to avoid conflicts.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Endangered, with the population declining due to habitat loss from deforestation and fragmentation. Major threats include agriculture expansion and climate change impacting their rainforest habitats.
