Habitat

This species inhabits the rainforests of northeastern Queensland, Australia, particularly in areas with dense canopy and high humidity. They prefer tropical and subtropical regions at altitudes up to 1,600 meters, often residing in the upper levels of the forest.

Diet

The Green ringtail possum primarily feeds on leaves from eucalyptus and other trees, supplemented by fruits and flowers. They are nocturnal foragers, spending nights in the canopy to avoid ground predators, and they have a slow metabolic rate to process their fibrous diet.

Behavior

Green ringtail possums are solitary and nocturnal, spending most of their time in trees using their prehensile tail for balance and grasping. They exhibit territorial behavior, marking areas with scent glands, and are generally quiet but may vocalize with soft calls during mating or threats. They are arboreal climbers, rarely descending to the ground except for water or specific food sources.

Conservation Status

The IUCN status is Least Concern, with a stable population trend, though habitat loss from deforestation poses a potential threat.
